It’s another great episode of Hall of Songs!
This time around, Tim and Chris select songs from the years 1991-94 that they either overlooked or previously didn’t get a chance to nominate for the Hall of Songs. And now … they get nominations!
So you’ll hear hits from Sheryl Crow and TLC, plus some other gems.
And while we nominate four tracks, we also talk a lot about some other songs that interested us. So hang with us as we investigate the early 1990s in the way only we can.
For the hosts of Hall of Songs, 1994 is a major turning-point year. On one hand, it’s about graduating high school and looking forward, and on on the other hand, it’s hiding into a boombox and letting the music become you. No matter how we took in 1994, this year is a big one. We’ve got alternative rock, hard rock, pop punk, and R&B making big moves this year, and we’re chronicling it all.

As we at Hall of Songs have reached the 1990s, we are celebrating being in the thick of our own nostalgia. So to keep the party going as we roll into 1994, we asked Kristen Kurtis, morning show host at our favorite radio station WXPN (88.5FM in Philadelphia), to chat with us about the decade she also loves so much. It just so happens that Kristen and her XPN crew are about to embark on a special “90s A to Z” programming block on Dec. 1, 2022!
So we talk to Kristen about “90s A to Z,” then ask her about her favorite artists, albums, and songs of the 90s. We also discuss how the 90s are perceived by critics, why 90s kids are the best music listeners ever, and which Tori Amos song she would nominate for the Hall of Songs (spoiler: all of them).
